Prisha Khimavat

living life one word at a time.

For me, poetry isn’t simply expression, but rather the method in which to collect myself and piece me back together; my poetry is an amalgamation of who I’ve been, who I am and who I might become.

This is part of a writing challenge. Read more about it here.

An Uncomfortable Feeling

Prisha Khimavat

A body trembling

Mind numbing

Bone chilling feeling.

A quiet thunder

Rumbling invisibly

Existing in shadows.

A screaming whisper

A cry for help

Unheard, non-existent.

Nails that are dug

Deep into palms

And voices that are gone

Perhaps never to return

A stoic face

A trembling chin

A fire drowning me out from within.

My empty brain

An abandoned nest,

I swear an elephant

Is sitting on my chest.

No air in

No air out

No way or method

To scream or shout.

The creek of water rolling down my face

Transforms into a river no less.

I’ve given up hope

Resigned to my fate.

I guess it’s time

I pick out my casket.

As I flip through

My mental catalogue,

My river comes

To a screeching halt.

The fire in my lungs,

Gradually put out.

Now, off my chest,

The elephant stands tall.

All functions resuming,

All energy gone missing,

Exhausted though I may be,

I didn’t die at least.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be back.

Yours truly, A Panic attack.”
