living life one word at a time.

For me, poetry isn’t simply expression, but rather the method in which to collect myself and piece me back together; my poetry is an amalgamation of who I’ve been, who I am and who I might become.

Motivation

This is part of a writing challenge. Read more about it here.

Motivation. Man, I could really use some of that right about now. I fully recognize that I usually write about deeper, more relevant topics that in some way emulate the human experience, but I don’t feel like doing that today.

I’ve been sitting here with my computer open for over an hour with absolutely no desire to write or create anything, especially not anything even mildly cohesive. This is so frustrating because I love writing and creating and every time I finish with a piece or post, I feel so proud and excited. However, starting is really the difficult part. Well, also sometimes, even after you somehow manage to start, you find out that you’ve got no creative juices, no desire and honestly no motivation.

A few weeks ago, we had someone from Disney visit our Interpersonal communication class to talk to us, and one of the questions we asked him was how he handles a lack of motivation. He said something along the lines of “I leave, go do something else and then come back to it.” So, I decided to do that. I did some laundry, then made myself some popcorn, ate it with cheese sauce, drank some pink guava juice and watched Aladdin.

It did not help.

I still have no motivation.

Oh! oh! oh! You know what else he shared with us? Goofy is half man and half dog. Yeah. Just think about how that would have come to be. Yeah. It kind of messed with me for a while. So, that’s a fun fact.

Okay, so since we were on the topic of fun facts, I figured why not Google fun facts and then share them with you. At least this way you’re reading something a little more fascinating than an eighteen-year-old girl complaining about her lack of motivation.

So, here are some of my favorite facts from TheFactSite:

  • In Switzerland, it is illegal to own just one guinea pig.
    • Supposedly this is because guinea pigs are social animals and “are considered victims of abuse” otherwise. I find this absolutely fascinating. In fact, I feel as though there are very many odd laws in the world. If you know any other random ones, let me know!
  • Movie trailers were originally shown after the movie, which is why they were called “trailers”.
    • My goodness. This one. Alright so, fun fact about me, I take the trailers for granted, for sure! I’m always late to movies, especially recently, and I think it’s in part because I always think that the trailers are going to be long anyway. It’s definitely a terrible habit because I have missed the beginnings of quite a few movies. (insert emoji of the monkey covering its eyes.)
  • Sea otters hold hands when they sleep so they don’t drift away from each other.
    • So, I’ve actually heard of this before, but here’s a picture for your viewing pleasure.

Alright! I feel like that’s a decent amount of random facts. So, here are a few facts about me. You can decide whether or not they’re fun facts.

  1. I am a huge Harry Potter nerd, like massive Potterhead. I’ve read the series nine times, and am currently in the process of reading it for the tenth time!
  2. I am a proud Hufflepuff, and I will come for you if you claim Hufflepuffs are any less than any other house.
  3. I am a massive procrastinator, and I have completed many many tasks very last minute. (would not recommend.)
  4. My most used emoji is the laughing-crying emoji. I use that all the time.
  5. Oh! My most favorite color right now is yellow, particularly a mustard yellow. I am obsessed.

Okay, well that’s that. You know, I really thought that after typing away for like forty something minutes I might feel more accomplished or productive or something, but nope. I’ve got nothing. I mean, it makes sense. Not every day is going to be a good one, you’re going to have days when you don’t feel like doing anything, but you have to push through it. This is my attempt at pushing through the lethargy and lack of motivation.

I hope it was somewhat entertaining. I’m going to head to bed now. If you have any suggestions of what I should write about in the upcoming days, please let me know!
