Last year, when I turned seventeen, I wrote a post called 17 things I’ve learned since turning 17. It was a collection of stories and statements that rang true since my last birthday. I’d been meaning to do one this year too, and I realized that I hadn’t done so yet, so here we go!
- Mornings are BEAUTIFUL. I’ve written about this earlier, but I find mornings so blissful and serene. Just the opportunity to sit by yourself, read a book, eat breakfast and just have some quiet time.
- Morning classes, on the other hand, are a representation of all things evil. Every opportunity you get to take a 12 P.M. class as compared to an 8:30 A.M. class, TAKE IT. Morning classes are awful.
- Bagels don’t normally have eggs in them, and they make for a great breakfast.
- Bubble tea is a drop of heaven when done right. I used to hate bubble tea, until just two months ago, when I realized how wrong I was.
- The pineapple on pizza debate can make or break friendships. I have had many arguments about this, but I’ve also gotten to know someone because we both agreed that pineapple is GREAT on pizza.
- Three of my favorite wardrobe pieces are A denim jacket, white sneakers and a pair of big hoops. These paired with pretty much any outfit makes for a classic look. You can wear it with jeans and a t-shirt, or a top and a skirt, even a dress. Point being, I love these pieces.
- Apparently, Indians invented pajamas.
- Yellow is a beautiful color. As a kid, I would never understand people who said their favorite color was yellow, but over the past few months, I have essentially fallen in love with the color. It’s bright, lively and so warm. Yellow is great.
- A good icebreaker, or at least one that works decently well is “I’m sorry, have I seen you somewhere before?” or “I feel like I know you from somewhere.” Obviously think through of a potential place you might have seen them, or someone that looks like them. Make it believable.
- It’s important to be aware of how someone is responding to you talking to them. If they’re not making much eye contact or like keep looking away as if they’re trying to find a way out, and especially if they give short abrupt answers and are just trying to be polite, LEAVE THEM BE. It’s important to give people space if they don’t want to be having a conversation at a particular moment. We never know whats going on in someone’s life, and if they’re not up for it, they may be uncomfortable sharing that they don’t want to talk then. So, it’s important to be observant.
- When you have a day full of errands, be sure to give yourself at least thirty minutes of leeway, because if your schedule is jampacked, something will for sure go wrong, and you will be late.
- If the city you’re in has multiple airports, TRIPLE CHECK that you’re going to the right one, or you might miss your flight. Trust me, I’d know.
- Why is Bluetooth called what it is? “Bluetooth was borrowed from the 10th century, second King of Denmark, King Harald Bluetooth; who was famous for uniting Scandinavia just as we intended to unite the PC and cellular industries with a short-range wireless link.” – Fossbytes
- In general, there are more supportive and positive people than not. And along those lines, any words of encouragement are total blessings and I super appreciate them.
- Water is the REAL adult drink. I need to drink more water.
- Plants (even fake ones) really spruce up a space and make it feel a lot more cohesive and lively.
- Vanilla cake is still the best cake, and cream cheese frosting is a blessing from the heavens above.
- It IS possible, and in fact really refreshing to entertain a thought without accepting it. I’m still learning to do it effectively, but the ability to discuss something with an open mind is amazing, and a really difficult thing to do.
